The new card arrived last week, but I have some bad news about it.
Initially it seemed to work, bit a little while later ceased to do so.
I plugged it in the same computer as I tried the previous card, and then
tried the data application. The existing installation of drivers worked.
It worked all right, showing signal strength and quality near 100% for the
streams I tried to tune it to in the Helsinki cable network.
Then I tried the tv application. It did not find any channels, and when
I went back to the data application, it did not work again either.
While trying the Linux drivers, I noticed that the card started to show
up on the PCI bus as different id's. Instead of the usual 0x7146 device
id, it sowed up as 0x2146, 0x3146, 0x6146 or something else. This went on
for hours while I tried to find a reason - loose installation, bad mains
power, poor ventilation - but nothing helped. I tried on both Windows and
Linux, and the card was no more detected. Finally the card displayed only
0xffff as all PCI id's.
I have assembled around 30 PC's during the past 15 years for personal
use, at work or for friends and relatives. I have never seen a meltdown
of a card like this before. I cannot find any reason for this in my
procedures.
What kind of experience do you have on these DVB-C cards? What about
this particular batch, as I see the serial numbers of the two cards are
quite close together? Have you or Hauppage had a lot of feedback or
returned units?

I would like to know what to do with this card and how to obtain a

I'm sorry to hear this. This was the first Hauppauge card with a defect. We
exchanged it to a brand new one. The defective card you sent us isn't back
from Hauppauge yet.
Unfortunately we have no possiblity to test a DVB-C card, because we have no
cable-TV. The only thing we can do is to swop the card again. We have
informed Hauppauge again, but i have the feeling that they can/will not do
anything. We also asked them to send us a tested card.

I was told by satland.de shop customer services that Hauppage has
suggested I should contact you about my problems with their DVB-C cards.
I do not know if it helps but this is my story. I have received and
returned two disfunctional cards, and I have no idea what to do with this.
I have attached most of the email conversation with them below. I would
appreciate it a lot if you could tell me what to do.
I am leaving for a holiday for two weeks so I might not get back to you
immediately if you send me mail.

in: components, OS etc..
The DVB-c is harder to install than the other boards because the drivers are
made for all DVB-c frequencies, It takes a lot of time to scan for channels
for example.
I think there is some conflict in your computer that stope the card from
working properly. First step is to investigate how your system looks.

MSI KT266 Pro2-RU motherboard with VIA KT266A chipset
Athlon XP 1800+ 1533MHz CPU
3com 3c905c networking card
ATI Radeon 7200 tv-out graphics card
Windows 2000, supplied drivers, 2.09 and also downloaded 2.10 tried
Linux (Suse 8.0), kernels 2.4.18-19, Linux DVB NEWBRANCH drivers.
The first card was also tried in an older intel 430hx chipset machine with
Linux, same symptoms (missing ves1820 chip). This first card never even
started to work.
The second card was tried in that 430hx machine with Linux and an intel
440BX chipset machine with intel CPU and Windows 2000. The second card
did not even register on PCI bus after it started to fail. I tried with
different PCI slots and without the networking card.
Note that the second card worked for 10-20 minutes in Windows2000 with the
data application. I manually entered frequencies and they instantly tuned
with indicators for signal strength and quality almost at 100%.
I have already sent the second card back to Satland, so I have no access
to it any more. Though I believe that would not matter as it is
completely dead anyway now.
